Bioinformatics involves in-depth understanding of biological data through strategic development of appropriate software tools. This is an interdisciplinary field including computer science, biology, mathematics, statistics, and information engineering all of which are essential to comprehend with abstract biological information.

Bioinformatics has many different applications such as silico analysis for biological queries, candidate gene identification, SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms), etc. This is helpful in deeper understanding of genetic formation of a diseases, to distinguish between various populations, etc.

In diseased state, the cellular activities show abnormalities. To understand these differences from normal state, in bioinformatics, biological data are gathered and compiled to obtain clear view of all activities. This composition is inclusive of amino acid sequences, protein structure, protein domain and nucleotide.
